Why I do not like cities

OK, this is why I do not like cities. This minivan was parked in the Metro garage, which means that somewhere this person was riding the Metro, like I was. If I didn't have to go into the city, then I wouldn't have to ride the Metro, and if I didn't ride the Metro, then I would never have to come across this person or their minivan. That would suit me just fine.

This is the passenger side. I use that term loosely, since there is no room for a passenger. The passenger seat was piled up to the window with trash.

This is what it looks like from the front. Yes, that's a rake in the middle. This vehicle is dangerous in more ways than one.

This is the driver's seat. It was covered with what appeared to be a trash bag. There's irony in that, somewhere. Also, you can note the President's Day sale paper. I took this picture in April. President's Day is in February.

You can see in this picture that there are boxes of food & used plastic carryout containers amongst all the trash. You can't really see the flies that were circling around inside the minivan. You can't smell it, either. It wasn't the sight of it that first attracted me, it was the smell. Curiously enough, something had died in the garage, and that was the first thing I smelled. Then after I passed that, I walked by this minivan, which smelled like rotting garbage from 20 feet away. Which, of course, is exactly what it was full of.

One last picture. You can see that the Hawaiian Punch box is soaked through with something. Something rotting and seeping out through the box, no doubt. So the license plate had current tags, and the minivan was gone once I got back to the garage. That means that this person is probably working and riding the Metro. But if this person's minivan is any indication, that person is out of control and needs professional help.

MGX FY08 2007 Site Visit

I traveled to Orlando, Florida, for a site visit for the MGX FY08 meeting that will be held in July. This is my room at the Hilton Garden Inn SeaWorld. More pillows anyone?

The closet, just inside the door.

The shower.

The sink.

I'm not positive, but I think this is the first room I stayed in that had a microwave, or a refrigerator. Or at least a refrigerator that wasn't stocked full of $5 bags of peanuts.

This is the room looking back to the door.

Here's the view out the left of my window.

And here's the view out the right. It was rainy the first day I was in Orlando.

That went away. The second day it was sunny and hot. This is the landscaping outside the Orange County Convention Center, where the meeting will be held.

Some more of the landscaping.

This where the registration area will be.

That's it for my trip to Orlando. I was there for a day, basically. This is the view outside my window on the plane.

Up we go. My flight was delayed for an hour and a half, by the way. Because of snow. I was flying Southwest again, this time from Orlando to Baltimore, and my flight was delayed by snow. I guess if I am flying up the east coast on Southwest Airlines, it makes just as much sense for my flight out of Orlando to be delayed because of snow.

JLC Providence 2007

This is just a plane taking off at the BWI airport. I flew Southwest Airlines from Baltimore to Providence, Rhode Island. Makes sense, right?

This time I stayed at the Hotel Providence. This is a picture of it, on the wall, that was in my room.

So here's the shower.

And here's the sink.

The closet.

The bed. Again with the pillows.

The desk.

An armoire. Guess what is inside.

If you guessed a television, coffee maker, and ice bucket, you win.

The is the view out of my window to the left. It was OK. There is actually a lot of building going on in Providence right now, and it looks like they are trying hard to preserve a lot of the building facades.

The is the view to the right. Not quite as interesting as the view to the left.

And this is the steeple of Grace Church, which I could see from my window. I guess it is old and historically relevant, but I don't know how old or why.
